Review: Coyote Ragtime Show DVD Box Set: Complete Collection

An anime about a group of interstellar pirates intent on stopping a photonic blowing up a planet called Graceland manages to be thought provoking while providing edge of your seat thrills! Spread out out over 12 episodes on 2 discs, CRS is a fantastic addition to the anime canon and one that completely deserves to be in your collection. Featuring a great cast comprising of a mysterious pirate called Mister, due to having so many aliases, a group of android gothic Lolitas called the 12 Sisters who answer to Madame Marciano and an intrepid Federal investigator who will stop at nothing in her rugged determination to catch Mister. Helping to round out Mister’s support team are Katana, Bishop, Swamp and Franca, the young daughter of the ex-pirate king, Bruce, murdered at the hands of Marciano, and who Mister is sworn to look after and protect as promised to Bruce on his deathbed. I won’t give away any spoilers and leave it up to you to watch but I can’t sing enough praises of this title. Every episode is filled with frantic action from gun battles, car chases, space battles all in a hectic race against time to stop Graceland from being obliterated. The story is rock solid and flows very nicely, you never feel that it’s all being rushed along despite the short number of episodes, it really is a credit to the writers and the animators who manage to block out the right pieces of the script resulting in a tight anime with a great and original cast, exciting action and an amazing colour palette. From the action packed opening credits to the explosive inevitable climax, Coyote Ragtime Show is a fun, fast and thoroughly enjoyable ride.
If I had to sum it up in one word, awesome. Given two words, freakin’ awesome, anime Otakus really need to run, don’t walk, to Otaku Fuel and pick up this great title today, you won’t be disappointed!

Kanga Kanga Revealed!

So I’ve mentioned a few times now about my penchant for buying Japanese magazines and the only place I go to for them is a really cool store called Kanga Kanga in the city on Russell St. close to the Greater Union cinemas. I thought I’d go past and ask the owner, Taka-san, if I could take some snaps for the blog to which he kindly agreed so to him I say, “Arigatou gozaimasu!” Pics below of the shop and contact details will be below them. If in the city, drop in and say hi, friendly fellow with a smile for everyone and tons of magazines to choose from. From cars, games, idols, reference materials and more this shop has everything and he’s more than happy to order something in if he doesn’t stock it!

Crack of dawn wake up and some snaps :)

So…due to a change of hours at work, I now have the unenviable task of walking up between 5:30AM and 6:00AM every day for the next 2 weeks 😦 But it did allow me to see the city in a different light as I usually see it when she’s already alive and bustling and it felt different to see her waking up to greet everyone 🙂 But first some previous pics that I haven’t posted yet.

Ichi and CubaIchi the cat and Cuba the Staffy dog sharing a cuddle on the couch…they really are best friends 🙂

Ichi and Cuba 2Just chillin’

Next just 2 random shots walking down Bourke St. one day after work.

Not the best quality I know but I’m putting that down to the iPhone :p Next we have once sworn enemies and now slowly getting used to each other. Ichi’s really friendly and wants to be friends but Mia, the grey tortoise shell, has no desire to be friends at all 😦 But at least she lets him sleep next to her now so it’s a step in the right direction.

Ok…so that finally brings us to today and specifically, the aforementioned, before the crack of dawn wake up call 😦

Melbourne AM 1That’s right…the clock doesn’t lie 😦

Melbourne AM 2Very lonely and quiet…nothing stirring 😦

GPO 1Historic moment!

GPO 2

Mall 1Bourke St. Mall

GPO 3The paths getting washed for another day of pedestrian abuse

GPO 4Spikes on the camera and overhang to prevent the birds from perching on there and pooping on everything and everyone!

Mall 2Another shot of Bourke St. Mall facing the other way

GPO 5And lastly a shot of a busy street cleaner, working in short sleeves in freezing conditions!!

And lastly, on the way back down the Mall in the afternoon after work, I noticed this little guy busking and dancing up a storm to Michael Jackson! He actually wasn’t half bad despite how little he moves in the video, I just started filming too late and missed the best of it 😦

MGS Remastered and Uncharted beta

All this time I’ve been thinking it’s just Peacewalker receiving the HD treatment as it migrates from PSP to PS3…I had no idea that three titles were being packaged and sold as one like they’re doing with God of War!! Three titles, MGS2: Sons of Liberty, MGS3: Snake Eater and Peacewalker all in one package…and releasing in November and in HD??  Marvellous!! Oh and the Uncharted multiplayer beta is pretty sweet, if you haven’t downloaded it and taken advantage of the free upgrade to PS+ status for one month, then download it now…it’s completely worth it 🙂
