EB Games Expo on the Gold Coast

I wonder how popular the EB Games Expo will prove to be this coming October, it has my interest piqued and could be alright. The door prices seem reasonable as well bit not too sure about the VIP ticket, doesn’t seem like the extra cash may be worth it. The video below shows the partners they have lined up so far, all the big players will be present so there may be some cool demos to get your hands on and maybe some awesome swag, right? At the very least, it’ll be a fangasm of StreetPass action, no? I’ll wait to see if they release more vids as the date gets closer with hopefully more announcements and more exhibitors!

Doing nothing

So I have a rare day off work and decided to spend the morning watching Pokemon from the start, because I can πŸ™‚ Have been using the website, pokemonepisode.org, not sure if they have the legal licence as crunchyroll does but it’s a great site with numerous viewing sites if one link doesn’t work. After that I decided, for no real reason, that I decided I wanted to watch the Final Destination movies…got through the first two before playing Burnout Paradise, which I recently acquired, for the PS3 as part of Sony’s Welcome Back promotion after their recent hacking scandal.

E3 Prologue

The mecca that is E3 or the Electronics Entertainment Expo, for the uninitiated, descends upon Los Angeles next week and with it, a whole bevvy of news and exciting announcements. What am I expecting to hear? I’m so glad you asked!

Well for a start, Nintendo will no doubt be showing off the Wii successor, Nintendo Stream or Project Cafe as is the working title. Supposedly more powerful than a PS3, this will mark Nintendo’s first foray into the HD arena whereas in the past they seemed to be mainly focused on entertainment fot the casual gamer without really catering for the hardcore. Not to say that their games are shite, far from it, but at the same time they’ve left the true hardcore in the lurch. I’m hoping Project Cafe will change all that with it’s powerful new hardware specs and the rumoured controller that will also have a screen built into it as well as the ability to stream content from the console to the controller. How this will be utilised will hopefully be shown at E3.

Now while the 3DS is enjoying moderate success, it hasn’t been the true runaway that Nintendo had hoped for as seen with the Gameboy and the DS. Obviously the mediocre launch titles would have had a lot to do with that. But with better AAA titles such as Pilotwings Resort and more recently, Dead or Alive: Dimensions being released and Zelda, Resident Evil: Mercenaries on the horizon, hopefully the tide will turn for the 3DS as it really is a unique device that will hopefully bring more gamers to it. Maybe a snippet or two of Metal Gear Solid, Mario Kart and the latest Mario title wouldn’t go astray either!

Microsoft I couldn’t care less about or maybe I could…either way, skip them and move onto the PS3.

I really hope there’s more announcements regarding the collection of PSP games that are receiving the HD treatment and then being re-released onto the PS3. We know that Monster Hunter Portable 3rd is the first game to receive the conversion, fingers crossed it receives a translation and comes to both PSP and the PS3 in Australia.

Grand Theft Auto V is long overdue so fingers crossed we’ll see Niko Belic make a comeback or hell, any announcement regarding the GTA universe is more than welcome. After smashing through God of War III, we can only hope that God of War IV makes an appearance or at the very least confirmation that it is coming. Another game that’s screaming for a remake with improved graphics and HD visuals is Final Fantasy VII, we’ve been hearing rumours for a few years now that this game was going to be remade…E3 2011 seems the ideal time to make such a dream a reality πŸ™‚ Probably we can expect to hear a lot more about Move for PS3 which to be honest doesn’t interest me on the slightest probably for the same reason that Kinect doesn’t do it for on 360…I can’t be stuffed moving furniture out of the way to play games…it is a couch sport after all! No doubt there’ll also be a public apology for the recent PSN debacle but actions speak louder than words so we’ll see when the Store will be back up and running. And of course the big elephant in the room, the NGP or Next Generation Portable or PSP2 or whatever you want to call it. I’ll be expecting final spec and price, if not for US and Australia, for Japan at least along with a whole bunch of demos and launch titles showcased as well as the all important release date.

Well I think I’ve rambled on for long enough so I’ll leave it at that for now…E3 is still one week away and I’ll be watching the Nintendo conference live…I don’t think I’ll make the Sony one though. Either way, we’ll see what happens!! πŸ™‚

More shattering news :(

As mentioned yesterday I’ve been waiting for the PSN store to come back online so I can get my mitts on some news games and demos from the Japanese PSN store. I know that it’s not supposed to be back up until the end of this month being May but there were whispers that it would be back up today…imagine my shock and utter dismay when I read that nope…it ain’t gonna be up today!! I suppose I only have myself to blame for getting my hopes up, Sony did say end of May so I’ll keep them to that. But from the other side of the pond being Nintendo land, I hear that the eagerly awaited Mega Man Legends 3: Prototype Version, which was to coincide with the launch of the eShop has also been delayed and won’t be available on June 7th!! Things just aren’t happening today but on a brighter note, the news that Sony are going to be bringing PSP classics to the PS3, fully remastered in HD and with Siaxxis support , builds more momentum with the news that Peacewalker is one title that’s going to be receiving said treatment…this is awesome and nearly deadens the blow of the two previously mentioned news πŸ™‚ Peacewalker, for the uninitiated out there, follows along in the Metal Gear Universe and has received rave reviews as one of the best games available for the Sony PSP.

No news on when this is happening has been confirmed as definitely happening so one reason to rejoice!!

The PSP Go is dead, long live the PSP Go!

Well…after a few many rumours, Sony has confirmed the inevitable…the PSP Go will be put to bed by Sony. The digital distribution model just hasn’t worked out for them even though other companies have managed to pull it off quite successfully. So after only 2 years, the Go is been discontinued to focus on the upcoming NGP or PSP2 as the kids are calling it. Nothing will be changing for the PSP 3000 however so fans of the UMD model can breathe a sigh of relief for now anyways. The Go has faced a price drop lately which made it more attractive to buyers but people still sitting on the fence over their decision to buy one would just be better off seeing just how cheap they get. So once store stock is sold, that’s it, they’re gone forever! Seems like only yesterday it launched…

Some pics from TGS 2010

>I haven’t crawled up and gone to sleep under a rock but I did spend 11 days with my family in Japan!! Spending most of our time in Tokyo, Asakusa and 2 days in Kyoto and Osaka…a major highlight was gaining entry to the Tokyo Game Show using a press pass. Not a scalped or forgery but a real one from my work with aussie-gamer.com, thanks Gamer!! Some pics below and more pics to follow πŸ™‚

Kahim Makuhari station. The hall where TGS was held was a stone’s throw away πŸ™‚
Banners with featured games, Monster Hunter Portable 3rd, a big highlight for the PSP.
Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood…looking tasty!!
A far off shot leading up to the hall…keen spotter will note the dark corners on the top of the pic…never take pics with your iphone in a case!! Lesson learnt πŸ™‚
Shot of the logo for this year’s event…I bought a t shirt with a similar logo on it which a lot of the Japanese kept commenting on days after the event.
Gamania had an awesome booth inside the hall, pics soon in next post. I did have an interview arranged with them but it was on one of the open to the public days…biiiiig mistake as half of Japan was there and entry was impossible 😦
Xbox 360 had a massive booth, as you do, and this game looked impressive. Didn’t play it but I remember watching it with my mouth open!!
From memory, I think this may have been the Gamania booth as they’re a pc only developer which I am not but their games did look really sweet.
More pics and video will follow shortly!

Whets the appetite
