The state of Expos in Australia :(

2 days off work means more reviews to come for my new buddies over at Otaku Fuel…I’d kill to be going to Anime Expo ’11 but once upon a time I wanted to go to Tokyo Game Show and that ended up happening last year πŸ™‚ Thanks once again to Aussie Gamer for the press hookup so I’m guessing if I play my cards right, I’ll end up at Anime Expo sooner rather than later. We really are starved for these kinds of expos in Australia, I mean, sure we have Supanova, Armagedon and Manifest as the three big ones but the space they occupy is minute compared to what takes place overseas. I’m fairly certain those three expos are the only big ones unless I’m missing one? The point being that while these shows do draw big names from the entertainment world, I’d give my left nut for something more anime/manga/J-pop culture related with a bigger emphasis on cosplay…maybe Japandaman needs to do something about this. Get some sponsorship happening, pay for some big names to come Down Under and get some people dragging themselves to a proper big show with vendors peddling their wares, the whole works. Good Smile Company, Max Factory and then maybe even Japanese pop culture blogger himself, Danny Choo. I’m sure he’d love it down here and people would definitely come from interstate to see him judging by the amount of Australian visitors to his site. And if we’re going that path, maybe even have a Japanese car culture section where Itasha would be introduced to the masses. If you don’t know what itasha is or what it means, have a click here or here.

But I digress as EB or Electronics Boutique themselves are planning an expo themselves at the end of the year, which in lieu of going to TGS this year, may be a distinct possibility on the Gold Coast. Link here to the website for those of you who don’t know what I’m talking about.

Of course something of this undertaking would require massive planning and I’d be doing market research for a lonnnng time to make sure this thing had the best chance of success and I’d probably call it Japania or something like that πŸ™‚ So who’s with me, does anyone want to see a massive event like this here? So instead of us flying overseas, which we’d still do, it’d be great to see international fans coming here for the expo!

Coffee, coffee, coffee!

Coffee. Something that so many people are addicted to and other people drink as a past time. I’ve never been a coffee drinker really, the most I’ve consumed is in the mornings when my mum used to make me her home made lattes by beating the coffee into a froth resulting in a smooth creamy blend πŸ™‚ Those were the days when I was still in high school and living at home as after I moved out I never really kept up the habit. Fast forward quite a few years and I was in a position lucky enough to win a professional Saeco coffee machine for the home through which I got back into the coffee habit. This however didn’t last for one reason or another, probably due to the fact that it dawned on me that it would sooner or later have to be cleaned and on a regular basis 😦 Needless to say the machine ended up being sold due to it being shown no love. Fast forward some more years and I find myself buying a keep cup from my Japanese school to help the cause of cleaning up Japan after the recent earthquake and subsequent tsunami 😦

So an ex-coffee drinker with a new coffee cup…what’s one to do?? Apart from my brief stint drinking chai lattes with a splash of vanilla, I hadn’t really delved back into the caffeine world.

I have missed thee!!

The keep cup has revitalised my taste for the caffeine and only just today I had a mysterious headache which after a cup of cappucino has more mysteriously disappeared. Could I be addicted already? Was my body going through withdrawals?? Quite possibly. Will I stay with the caffeine this time around, only time will tell πŸ™‚

Would the real Kevin Pereira/Nathan Drake please stand up?

I previously posted this at the bottom of another post and figured that maybe not too many people saw it πŸ™‚ But I personally think that Attack of the Show host, Kevin Pereira shares a striking resemblance to the hero of the Uncharted franchise on the PS3, Nathan Drake. Pics below. There’s a poll as well to vote on!

Now you, is Kevin Pereira Nathan Drake in disguise??

Polar bears, real and virtual

Watched the Polar Bear special that was on tv tonight which was amazing but it did get me thinking of the ads on tv for Coca Cola back in the day, the 90’s I think they were, they were so original and creative for the time. They should bring them back revamped for today’s market. For the young ones out there who have no idea what I’m talking about, I’ve included a few you tube clips below from yesteryear πŸ™‚

Very cute and endearing, yeah? πŸ™‚

The cheapest games? Not in Australia!

Following on from my recent post on Facebook and Twitter regarding the state of expensive games in Australia (thank you for the comments and Likes), I’m posting here the link to the original article on IGN just so everyone can see exactly how badly we’re getting done over here 😦 Makes you want to shop from this online retailer and only them! Oz Game Shop is based overseas but sell incredibly cheap games…I have a couple of friends who have used the site quite a few times and swear by them and the speedy service with free shipping around the world…4 days delivery in most cases!!! You can pick up the banned Mortal Kombat for PS3 for $54.99, free shipping and yes, that is the AUS price!! As I post this, they are currently sold out so place a pre order if you want it and thought you’d never be playing it πŸ™‚

Doing nothing

So I have a rare day off work and decided to spend the morning watching Pokemon from the start, because I can πŸ™‚ Have been using the website,, not sure if they have the legal licence as crunchyroll does but it’s a great site with numerous viewing sites if one link doesn’t work. After that I decided, for no real reason, that I decided I wanted to watch the Final Destination movies…got through the first two before playing Burnout Paradise, which I recently acquired, for the PS3 as part of Sony’s Welcome Back promotion after their recent hacking scandal.

Rants and raves :)

I’ve recently rediscovered my love for the band The White Stripes, in particular, their absolutely mindblowingly sublime cover version of Dusty Springfield’s, I just don’t know what to do with myself. For those that have come in late, I’ve included the vid below. It’s directed by Sofia Coppola and features Kate Moss looking great before all the drug issues…or maybe it was during? Who knows but she delivers a great turn in the video. The song itself is amazing though and deserves a few listens…will definitely be adding this one to my must buy list.

And on a sidenote, when the feck will the PSN store be back online??? It’s great that the network is back up and everyone’s fragging each other all over Black Ops, for those that haven’t lost interest in the whole COD franchise but to the rest of us, and by rest of us I mean me, that don’t go for that and just wanna hook up their psp with some new games, this is a disaster of unmitigated proportions!! (Have always wanted to use that phrase!) Supposedly by the end of this month 😦 All that has to happen now is the launch of the e-Shop for the Nintendo 3DS will be delayed as well and then I’ll go completely postal!! You heard it here it first anyways πŸ™‚

Don’t say it don’t look amazing!!!
